Can you recycle your Daily Contact Lenses?

Simply put, YES YOU CAN!

We’ve had a tonne of comments on social media about our daily lenses. Sadly, a few of them have been scathing about our contribution to plastic waste.

Let’s take Hopi out of the equation for a second. The proliferation of plastic products in the last several decades has been extraordinary. Quite simply, humans are addicted to this nearly indestructible material. We are producing over 300 million tons of plastic every year, 50% of which is for single-use purposes – utilized for just a few moments, but on the planet for at least several hundred years. More than 8 million tons of plastic is dumped into our oceans every year.

So we just wanted to outline our stance on the matter and how, as a small business, we’re committed to the best possible standards around sustainability.

Our brown shipping boxes ARE 100% recyclable

Our blue Hopi boxes ARE 100% recyclable

Your plastic blister packs are made from one of the safest plastics, polypropylene which is increasingly being accepted by recycling programmes (please check before doing this)

Even your contact lenses can be recycled with the above mentioned items

However, one thing we’re still working on is the foil lens seals on the blister packs. These tops are not commonly recycled. So please do remove these from the blister packs before recycling. Rest assured, we are looking at ways we can ensure these too can be recycled.

Take care!
